Chores
Kids' chores without a phone or an email
Kids do not need a phone or an email to do chores in HouseChief. Kids are profiles inside the family with no login. They tick off chores, earn stars, and spend them on rewards a parent approves. A parent PIN keeps them out of parent views. Any signed-in device in the house can switch to a kid's view, including a tablet on the wall.
A chore chart that is not another phone
A paper star chart works until it lives on the fridge and the rest of the week lives on a phone. A kid's own phone is the other extreme, and a lot of families are not ready for that. The middle is a profile: the child's name, color and chores, on a device a parent already signed in.
In HouseChief that profile has no login. There is no kid email to create and no password for them to forget. A parent, or anyone using a signed-in device, switches to the kid's view. The chores and rewards page is the full feature. What kids are allowed to see is on for kids.
How a parent sets the chores
A parent assigns each chore to one kid, to anyone, or to a rotation between siblings. A daily chore on rotation alternates by day. A weekly chore alternates by week. Kids tick their own chores for today. They cannot back-fill a missed day. A missed day resets that chore's streak and does not take stars they already earned.
Keep the list short enough to enforce. Two or three jobs a young child can finish beat a chart you will not look at. Stars build up. The rewards are whatever your family agrees: screen time, choosing dinner, a small outing. Stars are points, not money. HouseChief does not pay an allowance.
Stars, rewards and the parent PIN
A kid can ask to spend stars on a reward. The stars are held until a parent approves. Nothing is spent because a child tapped a button alone. That approval is the point of a rewards store: the chart is visible, and the yes is still a parent's.
A parent PIN keeps kids from switching back into a parent's view. An unlock from a kid's view locks again after 15 minutes. On the wall display, a parent can leave the tablet in a kid's view, or lock the device to the display until a parent PIN unlocks it. Kids never see private lists, settings or the approval Inbox.
Maya before school
Maya does not have a phone. She uses the kitchen tablet, already signed in, on her view. She taps "make bed" and "feed the cat" for today. The stars update. If she wants to spend them on picking Friday's dinner, Sam approves it. Leo's chores are on his own column, including the one that rotates to him this week. The weekly pass that confirms owners is the 10-minute family reset.
Questions
Do kids need a phone or email to do chores in HouseChief?
No. Kids are profiles inside the family with no login. They tick off chores, earn stars, and spend them on rewards a parent approves. A parent PIN keeps them out of parent views. Any signed-in phone, computer or wall display can switch to a kid's view. They do not need an email address or their own phone.
How does the parent PIN work with chores?
A parent sets a PIN so a kid's view cannot switch into parent settings, private lists or the Inbox. An unlock locks again after 15 minutes. Kids can still tick their own chores for today. A parent approves every reward before stars are spent.
Can kids spend stars without a parent?
No. Stars are held until a parent approves the reward. A missed chore resets that streak and does not remove stars already earned. Kids cannot tick chores for a past day. The reward stays listed until a parent says yes.
