Connect your assistant
Connect your AI assistant to HouseChief
Already use an AI assistant every day? Connect it to HouseChief and ask about your family's calendar, meals and chores, or add to your lists, without opening another app. It can look things up and add to your lists or Inbox, and that's all.
What your assistant can do
Once connected, your assistant works inside your family's HouseChief as you, a parent. It can answer "what's on our calendar this week?" or "what's for dinner Thursday?" from your real data, and help with small, reversible additions. It has seven tools:
- Calendar: events between two dates (the next seven days if you don't say).
- Meals: planned breakfasts, lunches, dinners and snacks.
- Chores: who has which chore on a day, and whether it's done.
- Lists: your family's lists and what's still unchecked.
- To-dos: open to-dos with due dates, owners and priority, for one person or everyone.
- Add to a list: puts items straight on a list such as Grocery or To-do, skipping anything already there. To-dos can carry a due date, an owner and a priority.
- Send to the Inbox: hands free text ("soccer Tuesdays at 5 for Leo, taco night Friday") to HouseChief, which turns it into events, chores, list items or meals that wait in the Inbox until a parent taps Approve.
What it can't do
The connector is deliberately small. Your assistant can't edit or delete calendar events, change the meal plan directly, remove list items, send email, change settings, or see your Chief of Staff chats. Anything bigger than adding to a list goes through the Inbox, where a parent approves it. Only parents can connect an assistant; kids can't.
This is separate from HouseChief's own AI Chief of Staff, which runs on frontier AI models inside the app and also asks before it changes anything. You don't need an outside assistant to use HouseChief.
How to connect it
Copy the connector address
In HouseChief, open Settings, then AI assistants, and tap Copy next to the address: https://housechief.app/api/mcp
Add a custom connector in your assistant
In your assistant's settings, find Connectors and add a custom connector. Paste the address. Some assistants put custom connectors behind a developer or advanced setting, and some plans may not offer them; check your assistant's help pages for "custom connectors".
Sign in to HouseChief
Your assistant opens HouseChief's sign-in page. Sign in as a parent.
Tap Allow
HouseChief asks whether to allow that assistant. Tap Allow. It now shows under Settings, AI assistants, with the date you connected it.
Ask something
Try "What's on the HouseChief calendar this weekend?" or "Add eggs and paper towels to our HouseChief grocery list."
Disconnecting and privacy
Settings, AI assistants lists every assistant you've connected. Tap Disconnect and it stops working right away; you can connect again later. Each parent connects their own assistant.
When you ask your assistant about your family, the answers it gets from HouseChief go to that assistant, and what it does with them is covered by its own terms and settings. HouseChief's side is in the privacy summary.
Questions
Can I connect my own AI assistant to HouseChief?
Yes, if it supports custom connectors. Add https://housechief.app/api/mcp as a custom connector, sign in to HouseChief as a parent and tap Allow. It can then read your family's calendar, meals, chores, lists and to-dos and add items to a list or the Inbox.
Can my AI assistant change our family calendar?
Not directly. It can read the calendar, but new events go to the HouseChief Inbox and wait for a parent to approve them. It can't edit or delete events, send email or change settings. The only thing it adds directly is items on a list.
Do I need an outside AI assistant to use HouseChief?
No. HouseChief has its own AI Chief of Staff built in. The connector is an extra for families who already use an assistant.
How do I disconnect it?
In HouseChief, open Settings, AI assistants, and tap Disconnect. It stops working right away. You can also remove the connector inside your assistant.
Can kids connect an assistant?
No. Only parents can.
