HouseChief Terms of Service

Last updated: October 23, 2026

Effective: October 23, 2026

These Terms are an agreement between you and HouseChief LLC ("HouseChief," "we," "us"). They cover your use of housechief.app, the HouseChief apps, the wall display, the family email address, and the HouseChief connector for AI assistants (together, the "Service"). By creating an account or using the Service, you agree to these Terms and to our Privacy Policy. If you do not agree, please do not use HouseChief.

1. Who can use HouseChief

  • Accounts are for adults. You must be at least 18 and a parent or legal guardian (or another adult who runs the household) to create or hold an account. We call these adults "parents."
  • Kids use HouseChief only under a parent's account. Kids do not get their own accounts, logins or email addresses. A parent creates a kid's profile (a name, a color and an emoji) and decides what the kid can see and do. Parents are responsible for how kids in their household use the Service.
  • The account owner. The parent who signs up is the family's account owner. The owner can manage billing and delete the whole family account. Other parents can be invited and can delete their own accounts.
  • You must give accurate information and keep your password, passkeys and devices secure. Tell us at support@housechief.app if you think someone has accessed your account without permission.

2. The HouseChief Family plan

HouseChief Family is one plan, paid monthly or yearly. It is free for 30 days, then $9.95/month or $99/year, with base AI usage included, plus paid AI usage beyond that, plus applicable taxes. Cancel anytime in settings.

On both monthly and yearly plans, base AI usage is included every month. Paid AI usage only happens if a parent turns it on, never goes over the monthly limit you set, and is billed monthly, even on a yearly plan (see section 4). Payments are processed by our payment processor, Stripe. We do not store your full card number.

3. Free trial and automatic renewal

  • New families get a 30-day free trial. You need to add a payment card to start it. One free trial per family.
  • Your plan renews automatically. Unless you cancel before the trial ends, on day 30 your card is charged $9.95 for a monthly plan, then $9.95 every month after that, or $99 for a yearly plan, then $99 every year after that, until you cancel. Any paid AI usage you turned on is charged each month on top of that.
  • We remind you first. We send a reminder at least 3 days before your trial ends and your first charge.
  • Cancel anytime in settings (Settings, Plan). If you cancel during the trial, you will not be charged. If you cancel after you have paid, you keep access until the end of the month or year you already paid for, and you will not be charged again. If you cancel a yearly plan, you get no refund or credit for the rest of the year, except for paid AI usage already used, which is on your final bill.
  • Switching plans. You can switch between monthly and yearly in Settings, Plan. If you switch from monthly to yearly, your yearly plan starts right away and you are charged $99 that day, with no credit for the rest of the month you already paid for. If you switch from yearly to monthly, you keep your yearly plan until the end of the year you paid for, and then monthly billing at $9.95 starts. There is no refund or credit for the switch.

4. AI included in your plan, and paid AI usage beyond that

HouseChief's assistants run on frontier AI models. Each AI request has a real cost to us, so the plan includes a monthly amount of AI.

  • Base AI usage included. During the trial and every month on a monthly or yearly plan, your family's plan includes base AI usage. You can see how much of it your family has used, as a percent, in Settings at any time. It resets each month on your plan's billing date (on a yearly plan, the same day each month). Your trial has its own base AI usage, which does not carry into your first paid month. Unused base AI usage does not roll over.
  • When base AI usage runs out, AI features pause until it resets, unless a parent turned on paid AI usage. Everything else in HouseChief keeps working. Turning a forwarded email or a pasted note into Inbox items and sorting groceries keep working for a little longer (a small buffer). We tell parents in the app, by push notification and by email when the family reaches 80% and 100%.
  • Paid AI usage beyond the base is off unless a parent turns it on. Once you have a paid plan, a parent can turn it on in Settings, Plan. It is billed at 2 times our cost. For example, AI that costs us $1.00 adds $2.00 to your bill.
  • You set the limit. Paid AI usage never adds more than the monthly limit a parent chooses: $10, $25 (the default), $50 or $100. We tell parents at 80% and 100% of the limit. When the limit is reached, AI pauses until it resets or until a parent raises the limit.
  • How it shows on your bill. Paid AI usage is billed once a month as a usage charge, rounded down to the whole cent, on both monthly and yearly plans. You can see your family's AI usage in Settings at any time.
  • Paid AI usage is not available during the trial or after HouseChief is paused for billing.

5. Refunds

Payments are not refundable, except where the law requires otherwise. We do not give full or partial refunds, or credits, for unused time, including when you cancel, switch plans, delete your family account, or when we stop offering HouseChief (see section 14). If you think we charged you by mistake (for example a duplicate charge or a charge after you canceled), write to support@housechief.app within 60 days and we will correct it.

6. Failed payments

If a payment fails, including the monthly paid AI usage charge on a yearly plan, we email every parent in your family with a link to update your card, and our payment processor tries the charge again several times over the next few weeks. Your family keeps full access for 7 days from the first failed payment. If payment still has not gone through after 7 days, HouseChief is paused until the balance is paid, and it unlocks as soon as a payment goes through. If the last try also fails, your plan ends and HouseChief stays paused until a parent subscribes again. Your data is kept for 6 months while HouseChief is paused, and you can still download it or delete your account during that time. We email parents 30 days and 7 days before we delete it. After 6 months paused, we delete your family's data, except a record that it was deleted and when, with no names or contact details.

7. Price changes

We may change prices, the base AI usage included or the paid AI usage rate. We will give you at least 30 days' notice by email and in the app before a change affects you, and it takes effect at your next renewal after the notice. If you do not agree, you can cancel before the change takes effect.

8. The AI proposes, a parent approves

  • HouseChief's assistants can read your family's information and propose changes. Changes to your calendar and meals, emails sent for you, new projects and anything submitted on a website wait for a parent's Approve. Quick additions to a list are added right away and come with Undo.
  • Kids' helpers can't change anything.
  • AI can be wrong. AI output can be incomplete, out of date or simply wrong, including dates, times, drive times, recipes, ingredients and allergy information, and answers about school or health. Check anything important before you rely on it. You are responsible for what you approve. HouseChief is not a substitute for medical, legal, financial or safety advice.
  • When an assistant uses a web browser for you, it runs in a separate cloud sandbox, never types passwords or card numbers, and stops for your Approve before submitting anything.

9. Your content

Your family's content (events, meals, lists, photos, chats and everything else you add) belongs to you. You give us permission to store, process and show it only as needed to run HouseChief for your family, including sending the needed parts to AI services to answer your requests. We do not sell your data, show ads or use your content to train AI models, and we don't allow our AI providers to train on your data.

10. Connected accounts

  • You can connect Google Calendar, iCloud, Outlook, OneDrive and other services. You confirm you have the right to connect them. Calendars you choose sync both ways, so changes you approve in HouseChief also appear there.
  • Family email address. Your family gets an address like yourfamily@email.housechief.app. We only accept email from a parent's own address that we can verify. Forwarded emails are turned into Inbox items that wait for your approval. Attachments may be saved to your connected OneDrive. Only forward email you have the right to share.
  • Other services have their own terms, and we are not responsible for them. You can disconnect any service in Settings, and you can also revoke access at Google, Apple or Microsoft.

11. The HouseChief connector for AI assistants (MCP)

If you connect an outside AI assistant (such as a chat app that supports the Model Context Protocol), it acts as you inside your family. It can read and add to your lists and Inbox. Information you share with that assistant is also handled under that assistant's own terms and privacy policy, not ours. Disconnect it in Settings at any time and its access stops.

12. Acceptable use

Do not:

  • break the law or use HouseChief to harm, harass or track anyone without their consent;
  • upload content you do not have the right to share, or content that sexualizes minors or is otherwise illegal;
  • try to access another family's data, get around security, rate limits, the AI allowance or the parent-approval step;
  • reverse engineer, scrape or overload the Service, or use it to build a competing product;
  • use the browser agent or connector to spam, buy restricted goods or break other sites' terms;
  • resell or share access outside your household.

13. Kids' privacy

  • HouseChief is built for parents. Kids do not have accounts, logins or email addresses, and we do not knowingly let a child under 13 sign up.
  • A parent decides what goes into a kid's profile and what kids can see. We collect about kids only what a parent or kid adds in the family (for example a name, color, emoji, chores, stars and what a kid asks their Buddy).
  • We use kids' information only to run HouseChief for your family. We never sell it, never use it for ads, and do not count kids' taps for analytics.
  • Parents can review, change or delete a kid's information at any time, and can delete the whole family. Write to support@housechief.app with questions.
  • We handle children's information with the U.S. Children's Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA) in mind.

14. Ending your account

  • You can stop at any time. Cancel your plan in Settings, Plan. The account owner can delete the whole family in Settings (Delete family account), and other parents can delete their own accounts. Deleting your family ends your plan right away. Any paid AI usage already used is billed at that time, and unused time is not refunded. Deletion is permanent and cannot be undone. We keep only a record that the family account was deleted and when, with no names or contact details. Please download your data first if you want a copy.
  • We may suspend or end your access if you break these Terms or if we must for legal reasons. Where we reasonably can, we will tell you first and give you a chance to download your data.
  • If we stop offering HouseChief, we will tell you at least 30 days ahead by email, stop charging you, and give you time to download your data. Payments already made, including for a yearly plan, are not refunded or credited (see section 5).

15. Changes to these Terms

We may update these Terms. If a change is material, we will tell you by email or in the app at least 30 days before it takes effect. Continuing to use HouseChief after that means you accept the new Terms.

16. Disclaimers

HouseChief is provided "as is" and "as available." To the fullest extent the law allows, we disclaim all warranties, express or implied, including merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose and non-infringement. We do not promise the Service will be uninterrupted, error-free or that AI output will be accurate. Calendar syncing, reminders and notifications may be delayed or fail, so do not rely on HouseChief alone for anything where a missed reminder could cause harm (for example medicine or safety).

17. Limitation of liability

To the fullest extent the law allows, HouseChief and its team will not be liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential or punitive damages, or for lost data, profits or goodwill. Our total liability for any claim about the Service is limited to the greater of the amount you paid us in the 12 months before the claim or $100. Some places do not allow these limits, so they may not apply to you.

18. Indemnity

You agree to cover our reasonable costs if a claim against us is caused by content you add or your breach of these Terms.

19. Governing law and disputes

These Terms are governed by the laws of the State of Texas, without regard to its conflict-of-law rules. Disputes will be brought in the state or federal courts in Dallas County, Texas. Before filing a claim, please contact us so we can try to resolve it.
