Dallas-Fort Worth

Put PTA, school and sports dates on one family calendar

PTA nights, school holidays and sports schedules can live on one family calendar if you subscribe to each published feed and add only the dates those feeds leave out. This is a Dallas-Fort Worth routine: each district publishes its own calendar, and a household can follow more than one. HouseChief does not replace Google Calendar, iCloud or Outlook. It keeps a family view beside them. No district or PTA has endorsed this page.

One family calendar, several publishers

A Dallas-Fort Worth week often mixes a district calendar, a campus newsletter, a PTA meeting and a team schedule. They are published by different people. The family still has to look at one week. Subscribe to each feed that already exists, and treat email and paper as the leftovers, not as the system.

Useful public starting points are Dallas ISD, Fort Worth ISD, Plano ISD, Frisco ISD, Richardson ISD and Arlington ISD. Look for a calendar or subscribe link on the district or campus site. This guide does not invent a feed address, and it is not a district endorsement. Texas PTA is the state association if a campus PTA wants its own reference. The longer local routine is DFW school calendars.

Put every school date on one calendar

Do this once per campus, then again when a season starts. Name each feed so a glance tells them apart.

  1. Subscribe to each campus or district calendar

Add the school's published link as a read-only feed. When they move an early-release day, the feed moves. Your note about who is driving does not write back to their calendar.

  2. Add the PTA and sports feeds the same way

A PTA or league link is another subscription, with its own name. If they only have a PDF, ask for a subscribe link. A short brief you can forward is a calendar link a PTA can publish.

  3. Keep using Google Calendar, iCloud or Outlook

Connect the calendar app each parent already uses. HouseChief can sync two ways with Google Calendar, iCloud and Outlook. You do not have to move the family off those apps.

  4. Forward what the feed leaves out

Picture day, a permission slip, or a meeting that was only in the newsletter still needs a parent to forward it from their own address. If you do not connect a mailbox, that is the only way email arrives.

  5. Approve, then look at the week once

Proposed dates land in the Inbox. A parent drops duplicates and taps Approve. The wall display can show today and tomorrow on a tablet you already own.

What not to claim

A district calendar page is a public source. It is not a partnership. Do not tell a PTA that HouseChief is the district's tool. The PTA publishes its own link, families subscribe, and parents still approve anything that was only in email. The school cannot write to a family's HouseChief address. Mail is accepted from a parent's own address.

Follow the district's own rule for what a campus may publish. This page is general information for families, not advice to a school board.

Sam's two campuses

Sam subscribes to Maya's campus calendar and Leo's, plus the basketball feed the league posted. The Thursday PTA email mentions a meeting that is not on the feed. Sam forwards it, drops a duplicate early-release day, and approves the meeting. Jordan sees both schools on the family calendar and on the Google Calendar already in use at work. The family calendar page is where the sync and the feed settings live.

Questions

Does HouseChief replace Google Calendar, iCloud or Outlook?

It does not need to. HouseChief has two-way sync with Google Calendar, iCloud and Outlook, and other calendars can be added by subscription link. Campus, PTA and sports feeds stay read-only. Family notes and rides stay on your calendar. Parents keep using the calendar app they already check.

Are these DFW districts partners of HouseChief?

No. Dallas ISD, Fort Worth ISD, Plano ISD, Frisco ISD, Richardson ISD and Arlington ISD are named because they publish public calendar pages families already use. HouseChief is not endorsed by those districts or by a PTA. Subscribe to the link the school or PTA actually gives you.

What if the PTA only sends a PDF?

Ask for a subscribe link when they have one, using the PTA calendar tip. Until then, a parent forwards the email or sends the PDF, reviews the proposed dates, and taps Approve. Nothing is added before that. The feed, once it exists, is still the better copy for dates the whole campus shares.
