Home upkeep reminders for filters, alarms and gutters

HouseChief remembers home maintenance you would otherwise keep in your head. It tracks home upkeep like air filters, smoke alarms and gutters and reminds you when they are due. You choose how often. The due date is the last time you marked the job done, plus that interval. This is a household reminder, not repair advice.

The jobs that slip between seasons

School dates are loud. The air filter is quiet until the house smells dusty, the smoke alarm chirps at 2 a.m., or the gutters overflow on the first hard rain. Those jobs are not on the school calendar. They are due because of the last time someone did them, which is easy to forget if it lives in one person's memory.

A reminder does not replace a technician, a manual, or your own judgment about safety. It only puts the job back on a day you will see. If a detector or a filter has a rule from the manufacturer, follow that. HouseChief stores the interval you pick.

How a home upkeep reminder works

A parent adds an item: a name, how often, and the last time it was done. The choices on the form are monthly, every 2 months, every 3 months, every 6 months, yearly, or any number of days you type. If you have never marked it done, it shows as due today so it is not invisible. The next due date is the last done date plus that interval.

Mark it done when you finish, and the clock starts again from that day. A note can hold a filter size or a phone number. The morning briefing can include home care that is due, along with the calendar, meals, chores and the weather. You can also ask the Chief of Staff. A suggestion for a new reminder shows a card with Add. Nothing is saved until a parent taps it.

Filters, alarms and gutters

Air filters, smoke alarms and gutters are the usual list, plus anything else on a cycle: pest control, a water heater flush, a dryer vent. Pick the interval that matches how your household actually does the job. A three-month filter and a yearly gutter cleaning can sit on the same list with different gaps. They do not have to share a calendar event with soccer.

This is separate from kids' chores. A chore is for a child, today, with stars. Home upkeep is for the house, on a long cycle, for a parent. Both can show up in the morning, which is why the family morning briefing is the place they meet the rest of the day.

Jordan's filter

Jordan adds "air filter" at every 3 months and sets last done to the Saturday it was changed. The gutters go on as yearly. The smoke alarms go on at the interval Jordan chooses, with a note for the battery size. When the filter is due, it is on the morning briefing. Jordan marks it done after the hardware store, and the next date moves out three months. Sam sees the same list. Nobody has to remember the month in a text.

Questions

Does HouseChief remember home maintenance?

Yes. It tracks home upkeep like air filters, smoke alarms and gutters and reminds you when they are due. You set how often, from the last time you marked the job done. The morning briefing can include upkeep that is due. A suggestion from the assistant is not saved until a parent taps Add.

How does a home upkeep reminder get its date?

The due date is the last day you marked the job done, plus the interval you chose: monthly, every 2, 3 or 6 months, yearly, or a custom number of days. Mark it done and the next date moves forward. If it has never been done, it shows as due so you can set it.

Is this the same as a kid's chore?

No. Kids' chores are for today, with stars a parent approves. Home upkeep is a recurring house job for a parent, such as a filter or the gutters. Both can appear in the morning briefing. The reminder is not repair advice.
